East Toronto residents need to be aware that the City of Toronto will be closing the Richmond Street off-ramp from the Don Valley Parkway starting on Wednesday, Oct. 15, for bridge rehabilitation work.

The off-ramp will remain closed until spring 2026 to ensure safe completion.

Richmond Street will be reduced to one westbound lane at Eastern Avenue. Additionally, one eastbound lane will be closed on Eastern Avenue, and overnight lane closures on the DVP are to be expected while the bridge work is taking place.

Southbound drivers on the Don Valley Parkway can access downtown via Lake Shore Boulevard East at Don Roadway, the westbound Gardiner Expressway off-ramp at Sherbourne Street, and the westbound Gardiner Expressway off-ramp at Yonge Street.

The Ontario government is funding this rehabilitation as part of the Ontario-Toronto New Deal, which uploaded the Don Valley Parkway and Gardiner Expressway to the provincial government.

Three other bridges are included in the project: Eastern Avenue Bridge, Richmond Street East Bridge and Adelaide Street Bridge, as part of the 2024 Capital Works program. Construction began in July 2024, and is scheduled for completion in early 2027.

To accommodate traffic volume and disruptions, The city will post advance warning signs on major roads, suspend non-emergency roadwork, deploy traffic agents and adjust traffic signal timing based on road conditions.

“These efforts demonstrate the city’s commitment to maintaining vital infrastructure while keeping Toronto moving,” said a statement from the city in a news release on Oct. 7.
