Danforth Avenue was closed between Woodbine and Coxwell avenues earlier this afternoon as Toronto firefighters dealt with a fire in a building just west of Roseheath Avenue.

The three-alarm fire call brought a huge response from Toronto Fire Services with more than 15 vehicles at the scene including a ladder truck and a tower truck.

Toronto Fire Services received the call at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, regarding a fire in the rear of a commercial strip of buildings with the address 1849 Danforth Ave.

When firefighters arrived they encountered a fire in the back of one of the businesses at the ground floor level. That fire was quickly extinguished.

No injuries have been reported.

However, firefighters are expected to be on the scene for a bit more time this afternoon as they ensure there are no “hot spots” or spread to the roof or attic from the original blaze. Ventilators are also being used to clear smoke from second-floor residential apartments above the ground floor businesses.

UPDATE: According to the Toronto police X (formerly Twitter) account at https://x.com/TPSOperations Danforth Avenue was reopened to traffic shortly before 4 p.m. this afternoon.
