Toronto Beaches one win away from sweeping Ontario Junior Lacrosse League playoff series against Mimico Mountaineers

The Toronto Beaches Junior lacrosse team is one win away from sweeping its opening round series in the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League (OJLL) playoffs.
On Tuesday, July 15, night the Beaches beat the Mimico Mountaineers 9-6 in Game Two of the best-of-five playoff series. On top of their 7-4 win the first game of the series, the Beaches are in a position to bring out the brooms for Game Three on Thursday, July 17.
Game Three in the series is a home game for the Beaches, but it will be played at the Pickering Recreation Complex (1867 Valley Farm Rd.) at 8 p.m. While the Beaches team played its regular season home games at Ted Reeve Arena on Main Street, the local rink is putting its ice back in and the remainder of the Beaches home playoff games will now be held at the Pickering Recreation Complex.
In the Game Two victory, played at Mimico Arena in Etobicoke, the Beaches were led by goals from Willem Firth, with two, Liam Aston, with two, Kaleb Tatarek, Josh Mills, Hamish McPherson, Cal Brennan, and David Peterkin.
If necessary, Game Four is Saturday, July 19, at Mimico Arena and Game Five is Monday, July 21, at the Pickering Recreation Complex.
The Beaches finished second in the 11-team OJLL regular season standings, and are taking on the seventh place Mountaineers in this playoff series. The top eight teams in the OJLL regular season qualify for the playoffs.
Other playoff matches now taking place in the league are the first place Orangeville Northmen against the eighth place Kitchener-Waterloo; the third place Whitby Warriors against the sixth place St. Catharines Athletics; and the fourth place Six Nations Arrows taking on the fifth place Peterborough Lakers.
The OJLL playoff championship trophy is the Iroquois Cup.
Its winner goes on to represent Ontario and play in the national championship tournament for the Minto Cup.
The 2025 Minto Cup will be played in St. Catharines from Aug. 16 to 23. As hosts, the St. Catharines Athletics are guaranteed a spot in this year’s Minto Cup. Other participants will be the playoff champions of the OJLL (unless it is St. Catharines in which case the OJLL finalist will qualify); and the champions of the Alberta and the British Columbia Junior A lacrosse leagues. Last year’s Minto Cup champions were the Coquitlam Adanacs from B.C.
