Two men charged as a result of police investigation into shooting near Greenwood and Cosburn avenues on Tuesday

Two men have been arrested and charged by Toronto police in relation to a shooting investigation in East York this week.

On Tuesday, June 24, police were called to the area of Cosburn and Greenwood avenues at approximately 2:21 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

According to police, is alleged a suspect and the victim became involved in an altercation in the area and the suspect allegedly discharged the firearm, striking the victim in the end. The victim’s injuries were not life threatening.

Members of Toronto police’s Gun & Gang Task Force – Centralized Shooting Response Team commenced an investigation and identified the suspect alleged to be responsible for the shooting. 

Later in the day on June 24, the suspect was located in the Thickson Road and Taunton Road East area of Whitby where he was arrested.

Owen Bayi Makouangou, 22, of Oshawa, is facing a number of charges including discharging a firearm with intent, possession of a loaded regulated firearm and possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine.

Police allegedly seized a semi-automatic handgun and cocaine at the time of the arrest

As a result of the police investigation, another male has also been charged with several offences.

Guy-Christophe Bangoura, 26, of Toronto, is facing a number of charges including possession of a firearm without a licence, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm and possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine.
