Due to today’s extreme heat and humidity, the City of Toronto has announced a number of its outdoor pools will be remaining open until 11:45 p.m. on Monday, June 23.

Among the pools staying open late tonight is the Monarch Park pool (115 Felstead Ave.) in East Toronto.

The Monarch Park pool will open at 4 p.m. today for residents looking to cool off from the searingly hot temperatures that Toronto is currently experiencing. Temperatures this afternoon in Toronto were expected to be as high as 36 Celsius (feeling like 44 Celsius), with little cooling expected into the evening.

Other City of Toronto outdoor pools staying open tonight until 11:45 p.m. are Alex Duff (at Christie Pits); Fairbank (2213 Dufferin St.); North Toronto (200 Eglinton Ave. W.); McGregor Park (2231 Lawrence Ave. E.);, Smithfield (173 Mount Olive Dr.); and Sunnyside Gus Ryder (1755 Lake Shore Blvd. W.).

East Toronto residents needing relief from the heat today can also go to the designated cooling centre at the East York Civic Centre, 850 Coxwell Ave., which will be open until 9:30 p.m.

Residents are reminded to keep well hydrated and try to avoid any strenuous outdoor activities during this heat wave which is expected to last through until Wednesday, June 25, before temperatures begin to drop.
