Variety Village in southwest Scarborough will be hosting the North American VOLT Hockey Tournament this weekend.

Action in the tourney will be taking place on Saturday, May 24, and Sunday, May 25, at the Variety Village field house, 3701 Danforth Ave. just east of Birchmount Road.

Games on May 24 are scheduled to be played from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On May 25, games take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and then will be followed by medal round matches and presentations from 1 to 3 p.m.

VOLT hockey is an inclusive, accessible form of hockey, with a specifically designed hockey sport chair played by people with a variety of disabilities, particularly those with limited upper mobility.

Canada’s first VOLT hockey team began in 2016 with a handful of donors and sponsors at Variety Village in Scarborough. Since then there have been new teams started across Canada.

This weekend’s tournament will feature teams from Ontario, Manitoba, and Alberta as well as Boston in the United States.

Games in the tournament will be officiated by representatives of the Greater Toronto Hockey League, who have been long-time supporters of VOLT hockey.

Variety Village is an important service that continues to run several programs to provide service for individuals of all ages and abilities, and to help people build and grow their skills in team building, competition, social inclusion, and many others.
