East End Parents 4 Public Education to hold Save Our Schools rally on Saturday

A local rally to protect public education is set for East Toronto on Saturday, May 3.
Organized by East End Parents 4 Public Education, the rally will take place at the Robertson Parkette, southwest corner of Danforth and Coxwell avenues, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Organizers are concerned about recent moves and statements by the provincial government regarding the operations of public school boards in Ontario.
Earlier this week, trustees with the Toronto District School Board met to discuss cuts to a number of programs and facilities (including music and school pools) in light of a $58-million budget deficit.
While some say the TDSB’s budget challenges are due to a lack of funding by the Ontario Ministry of Education, the province says the board has been given many opportunities to address its deficit.
In a report on CP24 this week, Minister of Education Paul Calandra said the province would take control of the TDSB if it did not address its budget shortfalls.
