Dundas Street East to be closed this weekend between Logan and Wardell for rail bridge work

Dundas Street East between Logan and Wardell avenues will be closed for the weekend, starting this Friday evening.

From Friday, May 2, at 7 p.m. to Monday, May 5, at 5 a.m., that section of Dundas Street East will undergo a temporary for work on the rail bridge as part of the building of the Ontario Line subway.

Residents in the area should expect higher traffic and noise, said provincial transit agency Metrolinx in a news release announcing the closure.

“Overnight construction will be required to efficiently complete all the necessary activities during the road closure. Work will be scheduled during the day to minimize overnight noise,” said Metrolinx.

During this weekend’s full road closure, no traffic, cyclists, or pedestrians will be allowed beneath the Dundas Street East Bridge. Access for residents and businesses will be maintained east of Broadview Avenue annd West of Logan Avenue, said Metrolinx.

Signage regarding the Dundas Street East closure (except for local traffic) will be posted at Broadview and Logan avenues to direct drivers. Traffic will be diverted both ways via Broadview Avenue, Queen Street East, Logan and Carlaw avenues. Cyclists will be diverted both ways via Boulton Avenue., De Grassi Street, First Avenue, Gerrard Street East and Logan Avenue.

Advance signage will be in place to notify drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists of the closure. Paid duty officers will also be stationed at each end of the closure to assist anyone in navigating the area, said Metrolinx.
