Winter birding events slated for Tommy Thompson Park this month

East Toronto residents will have a number of opportunities to learn more about local nature and wildlife this month as the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) hosts events at Tommy Thompson Park on the Leslie Street Spit.
There will be a cost to attend the events focusing on birds and bird migration in the park located at 1 Leslie St., at Unwin Avenue.
The TRCA is also hosting a PA Day Camp for local students on Friday, Jan. 17 at the park.
The following events are slated for this month at Tommy Thompson Park:
Where Are They Now? The Winter Ecology of Migratory Birds on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon. The entry fee is $19.53 + HST (plus Eventbrite fees) per participant.
Surviving the Chill Non-Migratory Birds and their Winter Adaptions on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The entry fee is $19.53 + HST (plus Eventbrite fees) per participant.
PA Day Camp at Tommy Thompson Park on Friday, Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $75 per participant.
Migration Mysteries History of Bird Migration Monitoring on Saturday, Jan. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon. The entry fee $19.53 + HST (plus Eventbrite fees) per participant.
Nocturnal Birds of Toronto on Saturday, Jan. 18 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The entry fee $19.53 + HST (plus Eventbrite fees) per participant.
Birding Basics Beginner on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 9 a.m. to noon. The entry fee $19.53 + HST (plus Eventbrite fees) per participant.
Those wishing to take part in the events are asked to dress appropriately for the weather conditions. Comfortable winter boots, a toque, scarf, and gloves are recommended.
Also, participants should bring personal water bottles and snacks if needed. Those who have their own binoculars to use spotting the birds are asked to bring them, but extra pairs will be available.
Since 1957, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), has taken action to enhance the region’s natural environment and protect the land, water and communities from the impacts of flooding and increasingly extreme weather events.
