Residents invited to say goodbye to Leslieville Dollhouse, take home a toy or doll, at charity fundraiser set for today
East Toronto residents will have a chance to say goodbye to the Bertmount Avenue dollhouse in Leslieville this Sunday, Sept. 29.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., community members are invited to stop by the house at 37 Bertmount Ave. to share memories, take photos and even take home a souvenir from the iconic site.
The semidetached home has been famous in Leslieville for years as The Dollhouse, decorated all across the front of the yard, fence and walls with dolls, plaques and other items.
The house was purchased by new owners recently, but before they start renovations they wanted to give the community a chance to say a final goodbye and celebrate the house’s history.
Sunday’s event will also help raise funds for the Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) Change the Game campaign. The campaign supports the breaking down of systemic barriers preventing young people from reaching their potential in sports and other activities.
Shirley Sumaisar, The Dollhouse’s previous owner, had lived in the home for almost 50 years and began putting the displays of dolls, toys and other items on the front porch and surrounding property about 20 years ago.
The house was sold in July of this year.
Those who attend Sunday’s event can take home one of the items on display for a donation to the MLSE Change the Game campaign.
