Celebration for the official opening of Leslie Lookout Park in the Port Lands set for Saturday, Sept. 14
Leslie Lookout Park in the Port Lands will officially open on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The opening ceremony is slated for 10:45 a.m. at 12 Leslie St., which is south of Commissioners Street and north of Unwin Avenue.
“I am very pleased this beautiful new addition to our transforming waterfront will be open for everyone to enjoy,” said Toronto-Danforth Councillor Paula Fletcher in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter).
Saturday’s events will include a community celebration beginning after the 10:45 a.m. ribbon cutting and reception for the park’s opening. The community celebration runs from noon to 3 p.m. and will include a DJ, face painting, sand sculpting and activities provided by the City of Toronto’s Play Mobile.
The two-acre park has been years in the making and is part of the ongoing revitalization and redevelopment of the former industrial areas of the Toronto Port Lands.
Leslie Lookout Park is located at the east end of the Ship Channel or Leslie Slip, which was used as an area for lake freighters to unload and turn in.
Designed by Claude Cormier + Associés (CC+A), the new park will include a public beach, green space and an elevated lookout providing a view of the entire Ship Channel.

The vision for the park takes in the site’s industrial past.
It “embraces the look and feel of its industrial context, re-identifying the landscape of labour and work into one of play and recreation,” said Claude Cormier in an earlier CreateTO news release.
