Bard in the Park will be holding local performances of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream starting this week.
Presented by The Panopoly Theatre Collective, performances are at Norwood Park June 1 to 3; and Kew Gardens from June 12 to 18. Evening performances begin at 7 p.m. and weekend matinees are at 2 p.m.
“Join us for our new exploration of Shakespeare’s most-performed play,” said the Panopoly Theatre Collective website. “The king and queen of fairies have both arrived in a forest outside of Athens to celebrate the Duke’s upcoming wedding. As their fighting escalates with the use of a powerful love spell, their fairy servants band together to wreak havoc on the mortals that enter the forest.”
The performances of A Midsummer Night’s Drew will be preceded by the Clowns Reading Shakespeare (Workshop) which will feature a short take on the play Macbeth. “What can clowns teach us about the themes of love, power, fate, free will, and ambition? Laugh along with our clowns as they work together to present their 15-minute version of Macbeth (to the best of their ability),” said the Panopoly website.
Performances are pay-what-you-can, but donations are strongly suggested.
Seating is not provided and those attending are advised to bring their own chairs or blankets.
