Friends of Edward Dwyer fundraise for funeral

Friends of the late Edward Dwyer are raising money for his funeral costs.

Dwyer died on April 23 after he was stabbed at his family home on Harding Boulevard, in Birch Cliff. He had celebrated his 24th birthday just a few days before.

Dwyer’s 58-year-old father, Edward Dwyer Sr., has since been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Writing on a GoFundMe website that has already raised $1,200 toward the cost of Dwyer’s upcoming funeral, Chelsea Thomas said her long-time friend was full of compassion.

“The world needs more men like Eddy,” she wrote, noting that Dwyer enjoyed volunteering at local food banks and churches.

Thomas said she hopes supporters will step up to help Dwyer’s family as he helped his own community.

“Since Eddy had such a big heart, I have faith,” she wrote.

Heather Edwards, who knows the family through the Birch Cliff Housing Co-operative, also started a GoFundMe campaign with the same goal.

“Recently we have lost one of our own,” she wrote. “Let’s come together as a community to help them.”
