Paddlers from the Balmy Beach Canoe Club returned home from the national championships in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia last month with 17 medals, placing ninth overall.
The club’s paddlers won five golds. The team of Conrad Hopp, Nigel Rockett, Nick Robson and Ryan Nash took the gold in Juvenile Men K4 1000m. KC Fraser, Tamlyn Bohm, Lizzie Bates and Caroline Cook finished first in Open Women K4 200m. KC Fraser and Tamlyn Bohm took first in both Senior Women K2 500 and Senior Women K2 1000m. Eric Ellery, Bogdan Dramov, Conrad Hopp and Ryan Nash took the gold in Junior Men K4 1000m.
Silver medals came courtesy of Draga Culjak in Women LTA K1 200m; Senior Women K1 200m and Senior Women K1 500m from KC Fraser; Tamlyn Bohm in Senior Women K1 1000m; Charlotte Potter and Caroline Cook in Junior Women K2 500m; the team of KC Fraser, Tamlyn Bohm, Lizzie Bates and Charlotte Potter in Senior Women K4 500m; and the Senior Women Warcanoe team in the 500m.
KC Fraser and Mariane Fraser finished third in Senior Women K2 200m. Conrad Hopp and Nigel Rockett took bronze in Juvenile Men K2 1000m. Doug Ellery, Dylan Deska, Nick Owens and Pat Owens finished with bronze medals in Junior Men C4 1000m. Nick Robson finished third in Juvenile Men K1 1000m. The team of Amber Campbell, Allie Conetta, Danielle Albers and Alissa Marshall took bronze in Juvenile Women C4 500m.
Several paddlers from Balmy Beach Canoe Club were representing Canada in the Timber River in Rome, for the 2012 ICF World Marathon Championships, Sept. 21 to 23. Nick Robson, Hayley Plante, Caitlynne Allen, Lizzy Bates, Charlotte Potter, Doug Ellery, Eric Ellery and Tamlyn Bohm were all competing at the World Championships.
