Beacher headed to Edinburgh Fringe with one-woman show

Veteran actress Nonnie Griffin is taking her latest project to the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival this coming August. Sister Annunciata’s Secret was first performed at The Annex Theatre in October to rave reviews. A producer from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival heard about it, and asked to read the script.

“Since I play all the characters (six in all), I sent him a CD of it,” said Griffin, “He wrote back to say it was magnificent, and that it must go to the festival!” Sister Annunciata’s Secret is Griffin’s reimagining of a true story she heard from a fellow actor who, as he told it, became romantically involved with his piano teacher, a 30-year-old nun, when he was just a teenager. Griffin explained how she ended up hearing this secret.

“He was interested in me, but I was already involved with someone,” she said. “I told him, ‘you’ll have to think of me as a nun,’ and he told me about Sister Annunciata.” Griffin has appeared in films The Believers, The Abduction, A Husband, a Wife, and a Lover, as well as television appearances in Street Legal, King of Kensington, and Doc. She has also done voices for The Care Bears and The Raccoons.
