The Toronto Beaches Junior ‘A’ Lacrosse club is off to a rocky start to the 2012 season, but are starting to find their feet after notching their first point in the standings with a painfully close tie against the Brampton Excelsiors last Tuesday.
The team came off two losses on the road, in Whitby and Peterborough, ready to strike back. After a high-scoring first period, both teams slowed down and entered the third period in a 7-7 tie. With one Brampton goal and one from Toronto’s Ty Thompson, the game was set for a 10 minute overtime period.
Four minutes into overtime, an Excelsior goal put the pressure on the Beaches players; however, with less than a minute left, Toronto’s Jordan Robertson scored his third goal for a hat trick, and a tie to earn Beaches Junior ‘A’ its first point of the season.
Two days later the team hosted last year’s league – and national – champions, the Whitby Warriors, in a 14-4 loss at Ted Reeve.
Robertson is leading the Beaches team in scoring so far this season, with 22 points. Jackson Hulbert and Mike Triolo are also in the double digits already, Hulbert with 12 and Triolo with 10.
The next home game will be against the Six Nations Arrows on Monday, June 4. Toronto Beaches will host the Mississauga Tomahawks on Monday, June 11. All home games are at 8 p.m., at Ted Reeve Community Arena.
