It took them four years, but after some extremely hard work and great coaching, the Danforth CTI Hockey team have become Tier II City Champions.

Danforth defeated Parkdale Collegiate 3-2 in the final match on Mar. 2 at North Toronto Arena in what was a nail-biter until the end.

After going up by two goals in the second period, Danforth had to hold off a much determined Parkdale team in the third.

With just over nine minutes left in the game, Parkdale scored their second goal to make it a one goal contest.

Danforth got lucky in the final seconds as Parkdale missed scoring an equalizer by inches. But they held on and the team claimed its very first championship.

Danforth defeated Oakwood Collegiate 2-0 on Feb. 28 at Ted Reeve arena with two goals by co-captain Jamie Pyle.

“The team worked hard every single day. They were really dedicated and I’m really proud of all of them,” said coach Angelo Triantafillou.

“Today’s game was tough, we played hard and came up on top,” said Jamie Pyle of the final match.

“[Parkdale] kept challenging me on the breakaways and they made it tough,” said goaltender Dylan Pagliaro. “We battled strong and got the job done in the end.”

“Our golie (Pagliaro) came up big all year. He’s a fantastic player,” said Triantafillou.
