SUMMARY:ASCEND Contemporary Dance Workshop & Performance (PWYC by Donation)
DESCRIPTION:To Register\, this event is Pay What You Can by Donation in support of Street Health! The schedule is below: \n-WORKSHOP 11AM to 12:30PM-\nCome explore contemporary dance with a helium-filled friend! This is a beginner level contemporary dance workshop facilitated by Rosalind Saunders that explores the spirit of play through movement with balloons. If you have something that is weighing on you that you wish to release\, this is the class to do it. The idea of this class is to reacquaint ourselves with the part of us leftover from dancing as a child. \nWhat to Expect at the Workshop: The room is cozy\, with a wood laminate floor and windows. You can access St. Matthew’s Clubhouse using stairs or a ramp. Inflated vinyl balloons will be provided\, as well as a marker with which to write. The workshop will be structured as follows: Warm-up: move the body\, get ready to move; Games: get acquainted with your balloon and get in touch with the spirit of play; Choreography: learn a choreographed and repeatable dance with your balloon. \nDancers who participate in the workshop are then invited to perform the choreography they learn in the workshop in a short performance outside along with Rosalind. \n-PERFORMANCE 1PM to 1:30PM-\nThis will be an outdoor presentation of a contemporary dance piece using balloons\, featuring performances by Rosalind Saunders and any dancers who attended the ASCEND workshop who also wish to dance outside. \nWhat to Expect at the Performance: Plastic chairs will be available for seating in a semi-circle outside of St. Matthew’s Clubhouse in Riverdale Park East. The performance will begin with an introduction by Rosalind Saunders. The piece is approximately ten minutes in length and will be performed twice with a short break in between.
