Cello concert series continues

The third of six in a series of concerts celebrating the cello takes place Sunday, Jan. 11.

Ariel Barnes is the Vancouver Symphony’s principal cellist, as well as a member of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, the Turning Point Ensemble, and co-head of the cello department at the Vancouver Academy of Music.

Barnes is a diverse player, covering everything from Bach to contemporary compositions. His performance in the East End will showcase this range, with a program including Ana Sokolovic’s Vez, composed only 10 years ago, along with Bach’s Suite no. 4 in Eb Major, and Benjamin Britten’s Second Suite for Cello, Op 80.

The concert takes place at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11 at Seicho No Ie Centre, 662 Victoria Park Ave., just north of Danforth. Admission is $20, with proceeds going to the centre’s renovation fund.
