Sailor Diane Reid stands on dry land by the Ashbridges Bay Yacht Club on Oct. 5, three days after she flew back from the Canary Islands, where she was shipwrecked in one of the stormiest Mini Transat races since the 1990s. The 4,300 mile race invites people to sail alone in 6.5-metre boats from northern France to the Caribbean islands of Gaudeloupe.
