Still time to bid on Beach Advent flags

AdventFlagsLeuty-6590With just a few days left to bid on the flag of your choice, the Daily Flags for Daily Bread is wrapping up a second successful fundraising campaign. Organizers Michelynn Laflèche and Benedict Hilliard, who initiated the project in 2011, said they are within sight of their goal of raising $7,500 for the Daily Bread Food Bank.

This year neighbours along Leuty and Violet Avenues designed and created Advent flags which were hung outside their homes, one flag per day, from Dec. 1 to Jan. 1. The flags were put up for auction with all money raised going to the Daily Bread Food Bank.

Williamson Road Junior Public School, along with local businesses Shopper’s Drug Mart, Tails, Chocolate by Wickerhead and The Remarkable Bean, contributed food items, while other businesses – Envy Eyewear, Little Kickers, Raffan & Associates, Beaches Home Hardware, and Mastermind Toys – contributed cash donations.

On Jan. 9 the Tour des Flags public walk took place, a last chance to see the flags and submit bids. Visit dailyflagfordailybread.wordpress.com to see images of all the flags, and submit an online bid for the flag of your choice.
