RUGBY
The Balmy Beach Rugby Club, both the first and second teams, continues to dominate the Ontario Marshall League. With victories over Stoney Creek on July 16 at the Tubs & Gee Gage Rugby Field, both senior men’s teams are now 8-0 for the season and sit atop their respective tables.
Meanwhile the women’s senior team defeated the Toronto Nomads by a score of 17-14 in the Toronto Rugby Premier Womens league. Balmy Beach top the standings with a 7-1 record.
BASKETBALL
On July 16 the Coxwell Courts were hot – but not because of the summer heat. An action packed afternoon had players competing in the third annual Rise. Up. Tournament, hosted in part by S. H. Armstrong Community Centre. Nearly 50 participants enjoyed not only the competitions but also a BBQ, music and entertainment provided by Nintendo.
“We like to see the youth get involved and see things grow within their community,” said Rise. Up. organizing member Nick Wishart.
LACROSSE
The Toronto Beaches Lacrosse Junior A team continued to struggle in its final match of the season as it lost to the Peterborough Lakers by a score of 7-11.
The Beaches finished the 2011 season with only six points in 22 matches and missed the playoffs.
